New 2025 Thermal Regulation: Does Your Metalcon House Comply?

Chile has updated its construction requirements with the new Atmospheric Decontamination Plans (PDA) and updated thermal regulations. The goal is clear: homes that consume less energy for heating.

If you are getting quotes for a prefabricated or turnkey house, you must ask: "Does this house comply with the 2025 thermal standard?" Here we explain why the Canadian standard not only complies but exceeds the norm.

1. Continuous Thermal Envelope

The new regulation penalizes "thermal bridges," which are points where cold passes directly through (like an uninsulated concrete pillar). The Canadian system eliminates this through a multi-layer solution:

  • Metalcon Structure: Galvanized steel that allows insulation inside.
  • Mineral / Glass Wool: Fills 100% of the structural stud cavity.
  • Moisture and Vapor Barrier: Prevents humidity from damaging the insulation, maintaining its efficiency (R100) for decades.
  • EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish System): In our premium models, we add a layer of high-density polystyrene on the outside, breaking any thermal bridge from the steel.

2. Windows and Glass

Just any window won't do anymore. The standard requires low Thermal Transmittance (U-Value). At Canadian Houses, we standardize the use of PVC Windows with Thermopane (Double Glazed Hermetic Glass) in all our models.

This reduces heat loss by 40% compared to the traditional monolithic aluminum used by many budget builders.

3. Roofing: Where Most Heat is Lost

The old standard required 80mm of insulation in roofs. Today, zones like southern Chile require up to 160mm or more. Our truss system allows for much thicker insulation layers without damaging the ceiling, guaranteeing that the heat stays inside your home.

Conclusion: Invest in Insulation, Save on Firewood

A house that meets the 2025 standard costs a bit more in initial construction, but it will save you millions of pesos in heating over its lifespan. Don't build with standards from the past.
