Building in Summer to Inhabit in Winter: Logistics Timeline in Araucanía
In southern Chile, good weather windows are short. Trying to build a masonry house in Pucón or Puerto Varas can turn into an 18-month nightmare if rains stop the work. At Canadian Houses, we use speed to our advantage.
The Smart Timeline
Our dry construction system (Metalcon + Panels) does not depend on the "setting" or drying of concrete to advance on the walls. This allows us an aggressive schedule:
- Month 1 (Summer/Autumn): Foundations and Slab. This is the only critical stage requiring good weather. We take advantage of January to April to get the base ready.
- Month 2: Metal Structure. We raise the skeleton of the house in weeks, not months.
- Month 3: Roofing and Exterior Cladding. We close the house quickly ("Close-in"). Once the roof and moisture barriers are on, rain no longer stops the work.
- Month 4-6: Interior Finishes. We work undercover installing insulation, partitions, floors, and furniture, regardless of whether there is a storm outside.
Rural Zone Logistics
Building far from the city is a logistical challenge.
- Efficient Transport: One truck of Metalcon profiles transports the structure of 3 complete houses. To do the same in masonry, you would need dozens of trucks of bricks, sand, and cement, destroying rural roads.
- Less Waste: Being an industrialized system, we generate very little debris, respecting the natural environment of your plot.
Your House Ready for Winter
If we start in March, your house will be closed before the heavy rains of June and delivered so you can enjoy the winter holidays or September watching the rain from the warmth of your home, not worrying if the construction site flooded.
